Understanding Ring Terminal 'Stud Size'

Understanding Ring Terminal 'Stud Size'

When selecting the correct ring terminal for your project, you will find that it requires two key considerations:

1. The wire gauge you are using

2. The diameter of the terminal’s inner loop

Stud Size Rule

The specified dimension on the packaging indicates the size of the bolt or stud the terminal is compatible with. Simply put, a 3/8" terminal is meant for a 3/8" stud. The terminal's opening is manufactured to be slightly larger than the listed size, guaranteeing it will easily slip over a bolt of that corresponding dimension.

Measuring Your Terminal

To determine an unknown stud size, you'll need to measure its diameter. We strongly suggest using a set of calipers for the best accuracy. Though a ruler or tape measure can give you a rough estimate, calipers are far more precise.
